I help people to have a better understanding of their own self in all its complexities and in relation to other people. I offer psychotherapy and counselling to individuals and couples, as well as supervision.
I believe that developing a trusting therapeutic relationship offers the opportunity to help with such issues. It allows someone to understand how the past influences the present and how feelings we are unaware of impact on behaviour. I am particularly interested in how inter-generational trauma (especially the Holocaust) and migration affect us. Working through these understandings together provides you with a greater choice in how you engage with your world..
My practice is client centred and is informed by both contemporary psychodynamic theory (Relational Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy, Intersubjective theory, attachment and trauma theories), whilst valuing some of the insights provided by more classical thinking.
I have worked in the area of counselling and psychotherapy since 1990. Supervision experience includes supervising: psychotherapists in private practice or agencies, psychotherapy students for the clinical component of their psychotherapy training at AUT, allied health professionals, teachers in a senior management team.
I am a full member of the New Zealand Association of Psychotherapists with an Advanced Practice Certificate. I have been involved both at a local and national level with NZAP committees. I am a member of IARPP (The International Association for Relational Psychoanalysis and psychotherapy). I have undertaken three years of study with the New Zealand Institute of Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy.
